  • Description

On October 9, 2010 I invited concert goers to stand in front of a camera, close their eyes and think of the last time they went to the open sea. As they opened their eyes with that vision clear in their minds, I recorded a short video loop and transmitted the footage wirelessly to the roof of Northrop where it was projected in a collage of laughing eyes thinking of the sea.

Seaworthy was commissioned by the Institute for Advanced Studies, in collaboration with Northrop Auditorium, at the University of Minnesota. Originally scheduled for performance after Tania Pérez-Salas' “Waters of Forgetfulness” at Northrop, the work departs from Pérez's water theme towards a performative meditation on visions of the open sea.
